Quest for Fame

Dr. Lock Boyce is no stranger to the spotlight.

In fact, it might be assessed by an astute observer that he has been desperately seeking it.

Dr. Boyce has hosted his own failed radio show (perhaps he could ask Mr. McNabb for tips?), an open access program, lobbied for an IMDB (internet movie database) page, gotten himself on the Patrick County board of supervisors, offered succor to outside influencers by proferring the only dissenting vote in a resolution to maintain and protect the county's history, and presented conspiracy theories about "powerful people" in Patrick County who "want him gone" on a repeated basis.

What a windfall, then, to have the proverbial Eye of Sauron in the form of Huffington Post (a well-known polemical website), affixed on our small county, whose failing hospital somehow escaped the benevolent eye of these moral watchdogs. Boyce, shortly thereafter, called a board meeting to condemn Mr. McNabb and his ambulance service, and engaged in lengthy polemic on the subject, cameras affixed on him as he spewed bombast and brimstone for a disengaged audience (perhaps aware of his antics, the good citizens of Patrick County weren't too thrilled with his performance).

A windfall for Boyce, maybe - but not Patrick County, and certainly not the recipients of the Jeb Stuart Volunteer Squad's emergency medical services, as Boyce, clearly getting "high on his own supply", attempted to force Mr. McNabb's firing by motioning to suspend county funding to the ambulance service, which would, in turn, force a number of inevitable constitutional lawsuits on both the Jeb Stuart Ambulance Service and Patrick County.

This benefactor would have embroiled an already beleaguered county in a series of endless political court cases, just like Charlottesville, culminating in inevitable bankruptcy.

Perhaps the Huffington Post would hire Dr. Boyce on as a columnist, paying him a pittance for the deed. But the Huffington Post would not revive our shuttered hospital - or even give it a second glance - as they bore down on our county and made us national spectacle in an ongoing political struggle over free speech.

Thanks, Dr. Boyce!
